THE RAMP FESTIVAL TV Video -
as seen on PBS “King of Stink - Appalachian Ramp Festivals” tours 11 regional festivals in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia to bring that wild flavor and fun to people homesick for the hills. It features both expert commentary and the words of local folks who celebrate the centuries-old springtime tradition of foraging the wild ramp greens from the deep mountain hollows. Some events have endured as a tradition for many decades and draw hundreds of out-of-town visitors for a potent taste of the real “old-time down home cooking”, bluegrass music and nostalgia. Are spring ramps a tonic for all that ails you? Maybe that’s true! It is said that “Ramps smell so bad that nobody can get close enough to you to give you a cold or the flu!” The story is told by the warm and friendly hosts and guests at the ramp suppers... from Richwood, Helvetia, Calhoun County and Elkins, WV to Flag Pond, Polk County and Cosby,TN to Waynesville, Cherokee, Cullasaja, NC and White Top Mountain, VA. The raw ramp-eating contests are an awesome and hilarious spectacle... and remember, “ If you upchuck, you’ll be disqualified ! ” |
